Curriculum

RRDC philosophy is rooted in the traditions of constructivist learning theory and practice, meaning we believe children construct their knowledge through hands-on play experiences and social interactions. Children use their previous knowledge and natural desire to learn as a foundation to build on, making every child’s individual experience unique. The social nature of learning is valued and fostered, for it is through shared relationships with others that children come to realize themselves.
Teachers take an emergent/responsive curriculum approach, act as learning partners, and modify their practice in response to children’s questions, theories, and curiosities. Independent and cooperative learning are fostered through learning centers that include materials for: dramatic play, sensory exploration, block and manipulative play, science discovery, math, art, literacy and practical life. Providing a unique music experience for children is a signature component of the program, providing children with a daily opportunity to develop an appreciation for culturally diverse music and to use music as a learning tool for other domains.
We learn most about children through our partnerships with families. We rely on mutual respect and trust with families and appreciate the diversity they bring to our community to help our children grow to their full potential. Our thoughtfully planned spaces create a place to welcome, value, celebrate, and respect all individuals.

Music Education

Music education is the exceptional glue that holds our program together. Inspired by our own children’s transformative experiences with music, we have live music classes onsite every day. Our music curriculum challenges children to move, sing, dance, and play, breathing life and fresh creativity into the basics of music making

Countless studies have proven that music builds developing brains, and our kind and joyful roster of teaching specialists ensure that minds, bodies, and hearts aren’t far behind.

Cultural Curriculum

Learning about ourselves and our neighbors is more important than ever in our globalized worlds. Our cultural curriculum ensures that each child sees themselves and their families reflected in our classroom media and learns about other cultures worldwide and in our community.

Partnering with our parents, teachers and the community, we integrate books, music, toys, games, recipes, visual art, special celebrations, and live performances to give students meaningful, hands-on cultural experiences throughout their formative years.
